Iconic Buildings: Past, Present and Future. Antwerp, Brussels & Ghent – NL

Visuals-Ionic Buildings

Moderator Sunita Van Heers

Iconic buildings leave no one untouched. City dwellers are attached to “”their”” familiar towers and other buildings.
Just look at the reactions when architect Daniel Libeskind’s design for the renovation of the Boerentoren was announced, or when it was announced that Ghent’s Vleeshuis would be home to a bicycle shed.
But when is or does a building become “”iconic””? What consequences does this have when such a building has to be adapted to the changing needs of its users? What about major energy renovations? Can a new purpose be given to an iconic building? A multi-disciplinary panel looks at the past, present and future of iconic buildings in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent.

The speakers for this conference are Peter De Wilde (CEO Flanders Heritage Agency), Valérie Vermandel (Chief Development Officer Whitewood)
