Secretary of State of the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for Housing and Equal Opportunities (competences delegated by Minister-President Rudi Vervoort)
After completing her schooling in Dutch, Nawal Ben Hamou started her professional career as a manager in the Brussels-Ixelles Police Zone. She then joined the CGSP as a trade union delegate, while being an active member of the Young Socialists of Brussels. In May 2014, she entered the political arena by running for the legislative elections to become, at the age of 26, the youngest member of the Federal Parliament. Her favourite fields are: security and the fight against terrorism, police training, the civil service and the fight against discrimination and health, particularly concerning women. In July 2019, Nawal Ben Hamou was appointed Secretary of State for Housing and Equal Opportunities in the Vervoort III government. She also inherits the Social Cohesion and Sports portfolio within the COCOF (the French community Commission). The right to decent housing and the fight against all forms of discrimination are her two main priorities as part of this government.
