Geert Langenus

Geert Langenus obtained degrees in Economics from the University of Ghent and the Catholic University of Leuven. He joined the Research Department of the National Bank of Belgium where he first worked as a public finance expert focusing mostly on fiscal sustainability, structural budget balances and fiscal institutions. Since 2012 he is the Head of the National Accounts and Business Cycle Unit that is responsible for macroeconomic analysis and projections. He coordinates the Bank’s biannual macroeconomic projections and regularly appears in the Belgian media. He has held different teaching positions (in the fields of macroeconomics, international economics, applied European policy and real estate markets) and is the author of several publications ranging from public finances to nowcasting. He has also been involved in various technical assistance projects (IMF, EC, OECD) related to budgetary and economic policy as well as macroeconomic statistics.
