About us

In the light of the demographic growth in the Brussels Region, the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region has opted for an intelligent spatial development strategy that makes targeted choices to allow at the same time the densification and greening of land, sustainable social interactions and the creation of quality public spaces.
The Government intends to deploy a sustainable regional spatial planning strategy, in line with the ambitions of the Regional Sustainable Development Plan (see below), namely: a polycentric, neighbourhood-based, polycentric city.
In particular, the territorial development policy aims to improve the qualities of habitability and attractiveness of the densest central neighbourhoods, notably by creating green public spaces and cool blocks, reducing the built surface area and increasing neighbourhood facilities.
All of these elements contribute to building a healthy neighbourhood and environment.
Regional Sustainable Development Plan (PRDD)
The Regional Sustainable Development Plan is the Region’s strategy for territorial development. It sets its development objectives and priorities, based on economic, social, environmental and mobility needs.
It aims to provide adequate responses to the Region’s challenges and issues. The plan has identified 4 priorities:
Mobilise the regional territory :
1. To build the framework for territorial development and create new districts for housing.
2. To develop healthy, pleasant, sustainable and attractive quality of life. Bringing to life the concept of “City of short distances” and focusing on actions and projects implementing: urban renewal, qualitative and green public spaces, urban agriculture, circular economy and security.
3. To develop the urban economy.
4. To promote multi-modal mobility, reduce place of car and offer an alternative via the development of public transport network and promotion of active modes of transport.
